  • Notes
    • The Perstons were a well - established family of merchants, several of whom bought or married into country estates and most of whom owned property or land in the bits of Glasgow which were in the process of development.

Information from "The Glasgow Pottery of John and Matthew Perston Bell" by Henry E Kelly, Chapter 1, a downloadable book, revised edition, 2006

Pearston, John, merchant, [admitted as] Burgess and Guild Brother, as married to Ann, lawful daughter to Matthew Montgomery, cordiner, Burgess and Guild Brother,  Admitted, 18 October 1753.
The Burgesses & Guild Brethren of Glasgow, 1751-1846, ed. James R. Anderson, Scottish Record Society, Edinburgh, 1935, page 10.

The 13 Nov 1784 death record in Scotlands People may not be his but it seems probable that it is.  John Perston is not a common name, the occupation of the John Perston in the death record is 'Maltman' and his death is in the same parish and follows by one day, the death of John Perston's infant grandson and namesake, a son of Matthew Perston.

The 1789 and 1790 editions of a Glasgow postal directory include the following entries:

Perston, Montgomery, and co. maltsters and brewers, John's-street
Perston Matthew, Campbell-street, Dove-hill, northside Gallowgate
Jones's Directory … in and about the City of Glasgow, 1789, p.48

Perston, Ann and sons, brewerie Incle str. Newtown
Perstons, M.&J., manufact's warehouse Incle str. Ditto
Jones's Directory … in and about the City of Glasgow, 1790, p.48

These entries also suggest that John died before 1790.
